Galentine's Day For the Win

February 13, 2017 by Thrive Where Planted

It's Galentine's Day - the best day of the year! As the originator of this joyous day puts it, “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

Here at Thrive Where Planted, we're taking the Knope-style Galentine's Day and celebrating it with a twist! We love tea and all the girly goodness that comes with tea parties, so we'll be hosting a tea party this weekend in honor of Galentine's Day. There will be cucumber sandwiches, chamomile lavender tea and frittaffles (a frittata and waffle combined - making Leslie Knope proud!).

We figured there'd be no better backdrop for this tea time than a flower wall. It came out so well that we wanted to share the process here!

DIY Flower Wall

What you'll need:

1. Your favorite flowers (we chose tulips)
2. Jute
3. Clear adhesive plastic hooks
4. Washi tape (we ended up opting not to use it because we liked the aesthetic of the jute so much)

Get Started:
Wrap the jute around the base of the flower and tie a knot. Take the slack of the jute and wrap it around the plastic hook. Apply the adhesive on the back of the plastic hook and then pop it onto the wall. Make a design that best suites your tastes! We placed it in lines almost like wallpaper. We loved how it came out - check it out!

Paleo Doughnuts

To end the night, we're serving up delicious paleo doughnuts! When we first started seeing the word "paleo" trend, it was followed by an eye roll. Gluten free, sugar free, dairy free dessert - what could POSSIBLY be in it? Ruthie's friend Katie is an avid paleo enthusiast and introduced her to, “The Whole Food Diary,” an ebook with healthy doughnut recipes. Her cooking vocabulary soon broadened to words such as "arrow root" and "almond flour." The chocoholic doughnuts are simply divine and a wonderful healthy choice!

This coveted recipe is only available for purchase here:
